| | Most visitors to Siem Reap come only for the temples and miss out the entertainments. Often tired out after being ‘templed-out’, most can only drum up enough energy for drinks and a good meal. However, for many, Siem Reap may be their only Cambodian destination, and therefore a chance to taste other forms of Cambodian culture. | |

| Aspara Dance No visit to Cambodia is complete without attending an aspara dance performance. Several restaurants and hotels offer cultural performances which are usually made up of 4-6 individual dances, often opening with an aspara dance. Other venues offer shadow puppet theater as well.
Angkor Village has a nightly show which is combined with a pretty good dinner buffet in its traditional banquet-house Aspara Theater. The Raffles Grand Hotel D'Angkor has a similar show in an open pavilion on the front lawn; call ahead to get times for performances. | | | Shows for A Cause Across the river from Psar Chas, watch an evening traditional dance against a backdrop of 1,500 butterflies in a blooming garden. This is the unique experience offered by Butterflies Garden Restaurant, which occasionally stages shadow puppet theater. It buys its butterflies from poor kids living in a village near Angkor and supports causes such as Living Cambodian Arts. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served here.
La Noria Restaurant combines shadow-puppet theater with classical dance. The price includes a set dinner, and part of the proceeds goes to a charity supporting local kids.
In between stories about his day job as director of the Kantha Bopha Foundation, Dr. Beat (Beatocello) Richner performs original and Bach cello pieces. Entry is free, but donations are accepted to support their work at the hospital to give free treatment to their patients, most of whom are kids. It is an enjoyable entertainments every Saturday at 7.15pm just north of town. | |
